Bucks/NCBL Fold

It's one and and done for both the Watertown Bucks and the North Country Baseball League.

Team and league owner Bruce Zizari notified the City of Watertown Monday that the organization does not plan to continue into 2016. The Bucks and the league both had their inaugural seasons this past summer. The Bucks were supposed to be a member of the brand new East Coast Baseball League, but that folded days before the season was set to begin. Zicari and three other teams from that league then formed the North Country Baseball League, which was able to get one season of play in. The Bucks did see lower than expected attendance during their first year at the Alex Duffy Fairgrounds. Zicari says the main catalyst behind his decision to fold is the inability to find homes for two of the four teams in the league. The Bucks marked the return of pro baseball to the city since the Watertown Indians minor league squad left in the late 1990's.
