A recent audit by the State Comptrollers office is taking other state officials to task over how they oversee registered sex offenders in New York.
The audit found that the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision does not make the required minimum number of checks on offenders and doesn't perform mandated curfew checks either. The audit also found that photos of the offenders are not updated on a regular basis. Comptroller Tom DiNapoli outlined a number of recommendations on how the Department of Corrections can remedy the problem. They include better over site of the regional offices across the state.
