The village of Herrings is another step closer to dissolving. Herrings will receive $25,000 to help pay for dissolution expenses. Last fall, the village voted to dissolve in to the town of Wilna, creating a series of steps the village is required to go through. The money from the state will help pay off public referendum and other fees.

Calling the decsion to dissolve a reduction in duplicate governments, acting New York Secretary of State Rossana Rosado says "residents are seeking to change the status quo and re-imagine the structure of their local govering bodies." There are still more steps the village must follow, though, before it can officially dissolve into the town of Wilna.
