A court ruling could mean corrupt politicians in New York like former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and former Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos could lose their pensions.
A federal court of appeals ruled in favor of a government argument that federal law wins over protection of retirement funds. This was regarding a case involving former Bronx Assemblyman Eric Stevenson who was convicted of corruption.
A few years ago U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara vowed to go after pensions and it appears Stevenson is the first case.
