An Onondaga County man who identified as a woman may have committed suicide by handcuffing himself to a mountain bike before diving into a lake.

District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said the 38-year-old victim was born Paul Kench Jr., but had been going by the name "Sarah."

Police determined that the victim died at least a week ago.

Someone first spotted the body floating at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville at about 12:30 Saturday afternoon. A key for the handcuffs was found in a holder attached to the body, and the family apparently discovered a suicide note at some point recently.

Syracuse.com reports that the official cause of death was drowning.
