Council to seek public help in fundraising for closed off pool

The closed Thompson Park pool in Watertown will be on the agenda for City Council next week.

Council members are planing to ask a local group of supporters to help in fundraising efforts to revive the pool that was shutoff in 2013.

Recently, State Senator Patty Ritchie announced she had secured $300,000 to go toward either renovating or replacing the pool.

But estimates on replacing the structure come in at about $2 million, with a $750,000 price tag to update the bathhouse.

Mayor Joe Butler Jr. told the Watertown Daily Times that council may eventually decide to do the project in phases, to temper costs.
