Two St. Lawrence County women are accused of stealing merchandise from Walmart in Potsdam and then attempting to return the items in exchange for cash or gift cards.
Police have charged 25-year-old Brooke Dashno of Potsdam and 32-year-old Mary Maroney of Parishville each with two counts of petit laceny and sixth-degree conspiracy.
Dashno and Maroney allegedly tried to pull off their scheme on December 5 and December 8. They were denied by cashiers both times, leaving the store with the stolen items. Police were able to identify them because the two actually showed their licenses while attempting to return the stolen goods.
Dashno and Maroney are due back in Potsdam Village Court to answer to the charges next month.
