The New York State Zoo at Thompson Park is about to receive some much-needed finanical help from a local organization.
The Northern New York Community Foundation has offered up a grant totaling $100,000 designed to be given out over a two-year period. The first payment of $50,000 will come this year, and then the additional $50,000 will come after an evaluation of the zoo in 2018.
In a release, the Foundation called the zoo a "regional assest" and something that should be protected and enhanced.
The Foundation also announced it would be granting $50,000 to the group attempting to bring a splash pad to the Thompson Park in Watertown.
