In the last eight months, five assistant district attorneys have left the office in St. Lawrence County.
That's what chief ADA Keith Massey Jr. told St. Lawrence County legislators earlier this week. In explaining the workload issues for the office, Massey informed lawmakers that there are two full-time assistant district attorneys prosecuting about 2,000 misdemeanor cases in the 37 courts.
District Attorney Mary Rain, who was not at the meeting this week, is asking for lawmakers to approve eliminatnig a secretarial position and make it a legal secretary job.
Legislators have recently voted to fill a couple of vacant positions, but Massey indicated some applicants withdrew from the process rather than accept a job offer.
