After a now-former town clerk stole thousands of dollars, the town of Alexandria is taking an extra look at its finances.
For a period of about four years, Ellen Peck stole cash residents were using to pay for fines and fees while she was clerk. Peck has since been sentenced to probation and has been ordered to pay back the money she took.
But officials in Alexandria are going forward with an audit to make sure funds associated with the Redwood water and sewer system aren't missing.
A firm has been brought in to pour over the financial records.
