Standardized testing started yesterday throughout New York and more students are expected to skip out on the exams.
Students in grades three through eight will test in English Language Arts for what's known as Common Core tests.
While not too big an issue in our area, roughly a quarter-of-a-million students did not take the exams last year and many are expected to boycott again this year. Critics say it eats up classroom time and stresses out students but the state did make the tests shorter and did away with time limits.
Most of the boycotts were on Long Island last year, where some school officials there reportedly estimate 40 to 70 percent of students will opt out.
