A Jefferson County farmer is set to begin growing hemp on his land.
According to 7 News, Marc Privitera has obtained a research permit in order to grow the crop at his Ellisburg farm. Up until recently, only researchers could grow hemp in New York. But now, including Privitera, there are a total of six farms and small businesses taking part in the experimental program.
The overall goal is to see how productive hemp crops can be throughout New York.
Privitera plans to plant the seeds in a couple of months, with the goal of reaping their growth in about a year.
