Potential good news for some factory workers here in the North Country. This as a union representative tells 7 News that not all of the potentially 60 employees at Carthage Specialty Paper will be temporarily laid off.
Last week, workers were told they would be out of work for at least a week due to "routine maintenance." That created concern that the plant in West Carthage was in danger of shutting down for good. But according to the rep, maintenance employees will stay on during the five to seven days to do the work.
The union's contract with ownership, however, does expire this summer and those negotations are still ongoing.
