While legislators debate upping the legal age for buying tobacco products in St. Lawrence County, lawmakers in Ogdensburg are not on board.
Earlier this week, City Council voted 6-0 against showing support for the proposal being debated in the Legislature. Which, if it were to pass, it would be illegal for anyone under 21-years old to buy products like cigarettes in St. Lawrence County.
According to the Watertown Daily Times, Ogdensburg mayor Wayne Ashley said people could just drive to other nearby counties to buy cigs or chewing tobacco.
A public session is scheduled for June in order to let residents throughout the county voice their opinion.
