Jail Inmate In Critical Condition

A female inmate at the Jefferson county jail was in critical condition at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse following an incident at the Jefferson County Jail.

7 News reports that they were told that this inmate fell from a second story railing inside the jail on Friday afternoon around 2:30pm. Jefferson County Sheriff Colleen O'Neill said the incident was "unpredictable and pretty much unavoidable" and that it's a mental health issue, adding that she doesn't believe there was any wrongdoing done by her staff or other inmates. The Sheriff's Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
