National Weather Service to cut out certain alerts

There will be fewer alerts sent out by the National Weather Service this coming winter.

In a measure that actually kicked in earlier in the week, there will no longer be lake effect snow "watches" issued.
An official from the Weather Service told the goal is to "simplify" messages "so people can understand them better."
Several other alerts have also been eliminated with more--like flood and storm watches--potentially cut in the future.
