A woman had to jump from the second floor of her home to escape a fire working its way through her Jefferson County home.
Crews raced to the scene on County Route 3 in Herrings sometime just after noon. A man who lived at the residence told 7 News he came downstairs to see flames coming from the kitchen.
He reportedly had to yell to his wife to jump from the second story.
The two were able to get out safely, but the home was leveled by the blaze, with five puppies and one cat not making it out.
Investigators are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
