A former Ogdensburg city police detective is headed to trial in federal court on child porn charges.

Harry McCarthy rejected an offer from federal prosecutors Friday to plead guilty, in exchange for a 15 year sentence & his trial has been set for February 12 in federal court in Syracuse. McCarthy was indicted by a federal grand jury in 2016 on charges of sexually exploiting a child for the purpose of creating child pornography and for distributing, receiving, possessing and transporting child pornography as well as faces state felony charges of possessing and promoting a sexual performance of a child after he allegedly uploaded a picture to his personal e-mail account of a young girl having sex with an adult male. The 30-year veteran of the Ogdensburg Police Department had been in Franklin County jail without bail after allegedly violating the terms of his probationary release in February 2016 for allegedly having contact with a teenage boy named in an order of protection.

McCarthy is now in federal custody.
