There have been fewer people signing up for ATV permits in Lewis County so far this year. But officials told the Watertown Daily Times more three-day weekend passes have been sold.
Overall, the Lewis County Chamber of Commerce told the Times that season permits are down by about 4.8 percent--1,647 to 1,568 for this time of year. That's a loss of about $18,000 in permit revenue for Lewis County compared to just three years ago.
Soggy spring and early summer weather is being partially blamed for the sagging 2017 numbers.
Meanwhile, weekend passes are up over 18 percent so far, which is attributed to out-of-towners trying out new trails.
