The union representing corrections officers and the govenor are locked in a battle over a year old.

According to 7 News, the CO's union says legislation is required for a key contract change, while Governor Andrew Cuomo just vetoed a bill because he says that type of request is "typically bargained for" during negotiations.
At issue: corrections officers who retire andbut stay on the job are at risk for losing their pension and other benefits if they die--however, there is a payout "equal to three times" their salary.
WWNY 7 News reports State Senator Patty Ritchie has gotten involved on the officer's behalf, as more meetings between the two sides are planned for the future.
