Onondaga County is trying to raise the age to buy tobacco again.

The age had been raised to 19 but county lawmakers voted this week to raise the age to 21. A public hearing will be held in the coming weeks, then the bill will go to County Executive Joanie Mahoney's desk.
Lawmakers in St. Lawrence County voted down a similar law this past summer, while the Jefferson County Legislation currently has no plans to discuss changing the legal age to buy tobacco.
