A north country state lawmaker is pushing Governor Andrew Cuomo to look at building a tunnel for a portion of Interstate 81.
Specifically, state Senator Patty Ritchie is one of several lawmakers expressed interest in adding the tunnel for a 1.4-mile stretch running through the city of Syracuse.
According to the Watertown Daily Times, in a release, Senator Ritchie wrote that all options should be considered to make the roadway safer and more efficient.
Representing St. Lawrence, Jefferson and Oswego counties, Interstate 81 runs through Ritchie's entire district.
In his State of the State, Governor Cuomo said a committee will once again look into the tunnel as an option for Syracuse.
