The harsh winter has taken its toll on a church in Carthage.
According to the Watertown Daily Times, pipes within Grace Episcopal Church burst in late December during one of the many cold snaps the area has suffered through this season. Water covered a section of the building, initially freezing within in the altar area.
The Times also reports there was significant damage tot he chruch's basement, where several ceiling tiles and a cabinet were ruined. An insurance company is investigating and the church is planning to also hold fundraisers to pay for repairs.
Grace Episcopal has been holding services elsewhere since the pipes burst, but could be back in the church on State Street in Carthage by next Sunday.
