Lewis County is getting a college campus.

An announcement was made yesterday in Lowville that an extension of Watertown's Jefferson Community College is expected to be open to students by fall 2018. JCC will operate the education center with BOCES and Cornell Cooperative Extension subleasing office and educational space. A mix of non-college credit bearing and credit classes in the areas of agribusiness, hospitality and tourism, and advanced manufacturing is expected to be offered with many non-credit offerings to be developed as micro-credentials with prior learning assessment built in for transferability to credit bearing courses. Lewis County will now issue a bid for the design of the building, which will be located adjacent to the Maple Ridge Center on East Road. Officials hope to begin construction this spring and have the center open by fall.
