An early-morning house fire in Carthage killed one person and sent another person to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to 7 News, the blaze broke out inside a South Clinton Street home at some time around 4 a.m.
Police say 77-year-old Betty Shampine died at the scene, and 66-year-old Suzanne Blinebry was removed from the burning structure and then transported to a hospital in Syracuse.
It took about three hours in total for crews to put the flames out.
The home and garage are considered total losses and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
