In 2017, the Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force seized 29 guns, including long guns and handguns.
That's according to 7 News, which reports only five guns were taken in each 2015 and 2016. So why the jump in number last year? Jefferson County Sheriff Colleen O'Neill attributed it to drug busts typically turning up firearms as well.
Further, Watertown PD Chief Chip Donaghue also indicated that a rise in violent crime has also led to the increase in guns being seized.
