A local state lawmaker supports a measure calling to legalize gambling throughout New York.
The bill is currently in the state's Senate, and if it were to pass it would make sports betting legal throughout the Empire State.
Senator Patty Ritchie's office tells News Director Matt McClusky that the Senator does in fact support the legislation. Ritchie's district spans from portions of St. Lawrence County, down through both Jefferson and Oswego counties.
It's a measure that would allow anyone of age to place bets in casinos as well as online through credited outlets.
New York state, meanwhile, would collect an 8.5 percent tax on gross revenue taken in.
If the bill clears the state's Senate, it would then have to get through the Assembly, which has never shown support for similar legislation in the past.
