Plan to put townhouses in Watertown's Thompson Park not dead yet

Townhouses in Watertown's Thompson Park could still happen according to a local developer.

The Watertown Daily Times reports Mike Lundy sent an email to Mayor Joe Butler Jr stating "alternate plans" are being looked at for the site.

Previously, Lundy tried working out a complicated deal that would involve his buying the Golf Club, but turning the land over to the city all in exchange for acreage to build townhouses.

Under that potential agreement, Lundy would still operate and maintain the golf course through the multi-decade deal and would also be able to create townhouses in the now-wooded section near the park's Gotham Street entrance. But deed restrictions put the brakes on the plans.

Now, Lundy is considering backup plans according to his email. Details were not given, but Lundy is likely going to meet with City Council in the near future.

Further, the Times reports Lundy stated any proposed dog park for Thompson Park would have a "significant negative impact" on his intentions to develop the golf course.

Council members are expected to vote on a potential dog park in the coming weeks.
