High winds were blowing through northern New York Friday night.

The National Weather Service posted a high wind warning for Jefferson and Lewis counties, cancelling it just before 11 PM, as winds began to subside. The Weather Service said winds would be sustained at 25 to 40 miles per hour, and gust up to 60 miles per hour. National Grid reported more than 10,000 people without power in Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties at various times Friday night. The Thousand Islands Bridge Authority banned some vehicles from the bridge Friday night. The restriction was lifted around 9:30 PM, as winds eased. The Weather Service also discontinued a tornado watch for St. Lawrence County.
