Baseball Returns To Watertown

Baseball returns to Watertown when the Watertown Rapids baseball team takes to the field for its home opener this evening as a north country native will start on the mound.

The Rapids will host the Utica Blue Sox in their debut at the Alex Duffy Fairgrounds with the game scheduled to start at 7:05 this evening. LaFargeville alumnus Matt Valin will start for the Rapids after he had a couple of successful college seasons last year at Onondaga and this season at Cortland. Mayor Joe Butler will throw out the ceremonial 1st pitch, accompanied by the City Council as well as Acting City Manager Brad Minnick. Watertown High School's Emma Tompkins will sing the national anthem. It is 7 News night at the fairgrounds, with the first 200 fans getting a Frisbee courtesy of 7 News. There will be fireworks after the game.
