Democrats in the State Legislature are eyeing another increase to minimum wage across the state and are looking to repeal the labor law that creates different minimum wage levels between the city and upstate. Assemblyman Harry Bronson and Senator Jessica Ramos have introduced a bill to bring all counties outside the City to $16 an hour for minimum wage by Jan 1st, 2025, and $17 an hour by Jan 1st, 2026. In the bill’s justification, the lawmakers write that this legislation seeks to remedy this disparity and give Upstate New Yorker’s an equal minimum wage raise. The bill currently has multiple co-sponors, all democrats. You can find the text for the bill by clicking here.
